Questions to Ask a Prospective Search Engine Optimisation Company

One of the points made in the article on “things to out for when choosing an SEO company” was to ask them questions. By asking well informed and relevant questions you can help ensure that the SEO Company you choose will have your best interests in mind and will be providing you with effective and ethical services.

With this in mind we have listed a few things to ask each company to help gain greater insight into the services they provide.

Can they guarantee positions?

No one can guarantee positions in the search engines natural results. If they say they can ask them to explain how they do this. They will either be trying to sell you a Pay per Click advertising placement and claiming you will be on the front page, or they will not be able to explain it.

How do they plan on optimising the website?

Any SEO that provides ethical services will be happy to go into detail about how they will optimise your website. There are a few out of date/blackhat/unnecessary SEO services to look out for that you may be sold. These include reciprocal linking, link farms, paid links, search engine submissions. Steer clear of anyone offering these services.

What will they be doing for your money?

Ask them what you will be getting for your money. If you are paying a monthly fee or a management fee ask them what will be provided each month for this. SEO is an ongoing process and ideally should be employed on an ongoing basis. If they are providing an initial optimisation with no ongoing work then it might not be for you. Likewise you don’t want to be paying a monthly fee for nothing.

What kind of reporting do they provide?

Do they provide you with just a basic overview of the positions each month or do they show you the effect it has had on traffic and conversions? Do they go into detail about the work carried out and future recommendations?

By having a basic understanding you will be better equipped to locate the SEO Company that is right for you. If you are interested in reading more about SEO, why not check out the SEO resource centre.
