If you have a couple of sites up and running, the chances are that they are hosted on the same IP address due to your hosting setup.  What happens if you want to interlink these sites? Will you be penalized in any way?

It’s unlikely that you will see any negative effects from doing this as long as you are linking out of relevance. If you are doing to manipulate the search results then don’t forget that site wide links in the footer/sidebar are generally devalued by the search engines. You would be much better off putting a single link in content of a page.

If the link is relevant then go ahead and place it on the site. It has been seen that links from the same IP will not pass as much weight as this from different IP’s, so don’t expect anything special in terms of value passed.
